Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge: TPCK

When I began reading these articles, it was super overwhelming! I was simply thinking oh man this is a bunch of information to absorb! Then after taking some time and thinking about them it began to make sense! I felt like they were telling me that technology is a great thing, but make sure that you're still teaching and not using the technology to do the teaching!

There are so many great uses for technology in the classroom today! Some of which include smart boards, smart tables and the endless amount of sites online that are there to help! They are great supplemental resources, but they are not the teacher! I think it is very important to remember that! When I become a teacher I plan to take advantage of the technologies out there, but only use them as extra help! Online resources are great for home. In math Khan Academy can be a great supplemental online resource. If a student doesn't understand a concept and are at home they can look it up and get the help they need. There are amazing resources, but it can't be said enough, they aren't the teacher, we are!

Articles Reflection

Wow! That's what comes to mind when a read about all the ideas that are being worked on! I really enjoyed reading about all the inventions from 2015! There were some that were just absolutely crazy and I could hardly believe they were real! For example, the connected clothes, being able to press a button on your shoulder pad to translate a conversation! What!? That's just crazy!

In the classroom, I can see that there would be many advantages to having access to technology. I believe one of the most useful tools in the classroom would be the smart board. In wanting to become a math teacher, I have observed my math teachers using smart boards and noticed the advantages. As a teacher there is so much that you can do with it and I also believe that the students enjoy using the technology. I know when I was in high school it was always exciting to get to go up to the smart board and work out a problem. I believe that technology encourages student involvement.

After reading the articles, it seems that the possibilities are endless! I am super excited as we start this class to learn more about all the ways to use different technologies in the classroom! I hope that I learn many things that will be helpful so that I can really engage the students that I teach!
